The king is dead ! Long live the king.

Years and years Flickr was the only photosharing service that I thought was good enough to post and share my shots in (the Lightroom integration helped). All the images on this blog are linked directly from flickr and not on my own server. But In the last three years or so Flickr (lovely name in dutch btw) hasn’t changed anything. No new functions worth mentioning. Ok now there’s a map and you can post video’s now but that’s it. Still the same white, pink and blue mass.

The community part of Flickr has become more annoying than relevant. Useless groups, stupid flashing .gifs in the comment section. Not to mention all the oooh’s and the aah’s on every picture people see, good or bad, just to get some comments on their own pics, or the way the service is known to kick people out for no real reason let alone a chance to defend yourself (a little like facebook) I can go on but I won’t.

Because all along comes 500px or I should say “And in the blue corner of the ring, from Toronto, is the novice 500px who’s light on its feet and  quick as lightning” and it kicked Flick’s arse, BIG time. The way you present share your images is fantastic. It has a beautiful interface and if you buy an account you are literally awesome.

The way you can rate an image is much better and super simple. And I love the seamless social media integration.

For me 500px beat posterous and Tumblr as a way of presenting my snaps. So please visit and join me on 500px.
